What is a 1 hr session like?
Combine your love of yoga and the great outdoors! Connect with nature on the tranquil waters of Lacamas Lake while working on your balance, strength, flexibility, and concentration. Your lesson includes a short introduction to paddle boarding on land, a short paddle on the lake and then a yoga class on your board. Classes will be for all levels.
Who is the instructor?
We are so proud to be working with Sweetwater SUP Rentals this year to be able to bring you these classes. Our instructor, Jilleen Shahidi, is RYT and SUP Certified as well as First Aid and AED Certified. Please see our list of FAQ on the right for more about class, what to wear and what to expect. FAQ’s for SUP Yoga
If I have never been on a paddle board, can I still come to class?
Yes. At the start of class, we will do an introduction to paddling to get you acclimated to your board before we get in the water. Then, you will have a short time to paddle before we begin yoga. This will give you a chance to get a feel for being on the board.
What do I wear?
Wear whatever you normally would wear to a yoga class that you don’t mind getting wet. Yoga pants work great with a sports bra and tank or you can wear a bathing suit top if you want. You’ll want to avoid things that become see through when wet (like a white T-shirt, for example. I’d also avoid wearing a bathing suit bottom alone because of the poses.
Is there a weight limit?
The boards we are using right now have about a 200 lb weight limit to ensure the users safety.
Can kids come to class?
Unfortunately, for liability reasons, all participants must be at least 16 years of age.
What if I can’t swim?
Everyone is required to wear a life jacket. This is included in your class price and is essential for your safety.
What if I have never done yoga? Can I come as a beginner?
Absolutely! The class is geared towards all levels. Whether you are a beginner or seasoned yogi, you will find that the addition of balancing on a board in water will provide an extra sensory challenge, and an experience unlike that of any yoga class on land!
Am I going to fall in?
The boards we rent from Sweetwater are very sturdy and stable and with mindful practice it is unlikely. That being said, if paddle boarding or SUP yoga is new to you, or you are trying some more advanced techniques, that could happen. then Usually, during a normal class, you will not fall in the water. However, if you do, the water is very comfortable this time of year and you can think of it as a nice refreshing treat:). Sometimes I fall in on purpose just to cool off:)!
